Arbeloa, Roberto Carlos & Casillas visit captures imagination at Expo 2020 Dubai – Real Madrid

The madridista legends signed autographs and attended the ceremony that saw the Foundation recognised by the United Arab Emirates Anti-Doping Committee.

Real Madrid ambassadors Álvaro Arbeloa and Roberto Carlos, along with deputy general director of the Real Madrid Foundation, Iker Casillas headed up the madridista delegation’s visit to the Expo 2020 Dubai, the first edition to be held in the Middle East.

Upon their arrival, the party was welcomed by Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, executive director of the exposition, who explained the layout of the pavilions across the 400-hectare site that is hosting the biggest international event to have been staged in the post-pandemic period. Since 2016, over 45,000 individuals have worked to build the site, which occupies an area that is equivalent of 600 football pitches. The madridista legends’ created massive excitement and attracted the interest of visitors and fans alike, as well as the international media.
 
Meeting with fans at Emirates pavilion
Following a brief tour around the site in electronic cars, the madridista delegation stopped off at the pavilion run by Emirates, official sponsor of Real Madrid and the Expo 2020 Dubai, where they witnessed the application of new technologies in the sustainable economy, a central issue at this year’s event. Following the visit, Arbeloa and Roberto Carlos met around 100 madridista fans and spoke about the past and future of the game. Roberto Carlos commented: “There’ll be a lot of great teams at the Qatar World Cup, but Brazil have a great chance of winning”. Meanwhile, Arbeloa spoke of Madrid’s chances in Europe’s elite club competition: “We’re having an amazing season. It won’t be easy against PSG, but we’ve got a good side”.
 
Recognition at Spain pavilion
The ambassadors then headed over to the Spain pavilion to offer their support as Casillas presented the Foundation’s eLearning platform to some 50 guests. The ambassadors were welcomed by Carmen Bueno, the executive commissioner, and Iñigo de Palacio, the Spanish ambassador to Abu Dhabi. After visiting the pavilion, the United Arab Emirates Anti-Doping Committee presented Real Madrid and the club’s Foundation with an award to recognise its commitment to education. Julio González Ronco, the Foundation’s general director, was on hand to collect the distinction.
